DAY 2-ROOSTENBURG IT IS

The World Cup had begun and it was Day Two.You could only imagine the excitement.Faaiz Oz an Argentinian Fan couldnt wait to see Diego Maradona and his team playing live at Ellis Park against Nigeria. Many of the lads went to this game. The problem for most people though was do you watch the Argies vs Nigeria and see Lionel Messi or do you make the trip 2 hours North of JHB and watch England vs USA in Rustenburg. Doing both games would be pushing it. Myself and Moe were relaxed and we opted for a cool drive to Rustenburg.I wanted to see England and all the footballers we have grown accustomed to watching,Faaiz well decided to do both.More on that later.
So Myself and Moe had a good sleep, left at 1PM and headed towards Rustenburg, loaded our lucky makarapas and bought some English Flags on the way.

Our Lucky Makarapas.Brought usluck wherever we went during 2010
Rustenburg was gonna be freezing. En route we had the commentary on for the Argentina game. And along the way the Blackberry was just vibrating.Messages were stremaing in on how fantastic the atmosphere was and of course how majestic Lionel Messi. We were getting picture feeds ..........Technology is amazing hey.

Swoosh0018 Correspondent Hazrat Yusuf Rasool was on the scene and sent these pics into Swoosh0018 FanZone. Hazrat,Swaar,Husein Mayet,Riyad Loonat and many others described the atmosphere as simply Sublime and out of this World. How was it seeing Lionel Messi Live guys and please comment if you can.?

When we got to Rustenburg,English  and US Fans were plenty. The vibe was fantastic and the fans were everywhere rocking the local shebeens and pubs around the Bafokeng Stadium.I was excited,It was time to see England and meet the fans that we heard about so much.Everybody was so afraid prior to the game.Weve heard and been warned so much about the English Fans and were told to be very cautious.Well only one way to find out..?

Happy English Fans before the game

When myself and Moe drove pass the Shebeens en route to the stadium we could feel the electricity,As we got to the gate we were swamped by choruses of Engelaaaaand,Enge land Engeland.US Fans were plenty all dressed in stars and stripes. The English were singing. For me this was it.This was my dream. To see England in a competive match at a World Cup and to expereience the fans.It was magical. We spoke to many fans before kick off and just took it all in.As a football fan again this was fantastic

Where was our Lucky Makarapa going to take us this time

USA Fans before Kick Off

As we made our way to the Stadium fans were singing and chanting.Banners were laid across the stadium in true English style. It was an amazing sight. I had a category 4 ticket and was behind the goals. Moe and Faaiz who just made it from the Argentina vs Nigeria game were in a cat 2 parallell to the English Bench.Ebie and Waseem Khan were in the midst of the English at the bottom of me. Bafokeng stadium was like no another. It was open and to be honest It was one of the worst stadiums that Ive been to in 2010.....and it was a freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezing cold night.

The banners of the English all across the stadium,What a magnificent sight
View from my cat 4 seat behind the goal

Eb and Waseem amidst the English

This is Swoosh reporting from a dejected England Zone in Rustenburg. I have been to many football games but watching England from when I was a little Boy and listening to England Fans and God Save the Queen was fantastic. The Fans outside the stadium and In were awesome. Hats of to the US Fans as well.
The Bafokeng stadium was a cauldron and the songs of the English Fans added to the atmosphere. Although many English fans wanted a victory, a Rob Green Howler and the curse of Calamity James has still haunted England. I thought England missed to many and well they have to sharpen up in their next two games. But simply awesome. Also to see the movement of the Big name Players.Off the ball etc. Amazing to watch. But Azee and the three Lions...This was something else. Amazing to watch England live in a World Cup Game.

USA Fans after the game

Jubilat USA Fans after the game
After the game the English fans left quick and the USA were celebrating.
My Experience of Bafokeng Stadium. Awesome atmosphere. Was f34ken Cold and I thought the transport system from the stadium was terrible. As we made our way to the car we seen so many US and English Fans that came to us and say Please Help. How do we get to JHB.Apart from that it was a spectecular night of football. It wasnt good to b Rob Green but England and USA both shared the spoils and teh atmosphere was terrific. My first England game and if all goes according to plan we will see a possible England vs France quarter final at Soccer City.

Earlier on Greece lost 2-1 to Republic of Korea. There is a massive Greek community in South Africa.Im sure they must have been bitterly disappointed as the Greeks were beaten 2-0

A Korean fan at the match between Greece and Republic of Korea

@spursman07 Fans who don't buy the allocated tickets from the F.A are mixed up around the stadium, but the F.A get given 4 or 5 thousand bulk tickets for fans and they are all seated in the same place, and its because of the vuvu-zellas by a long way, doesn't matter any way though, last match against Slovenia the stadium was white and they all out sung that stupid horn :D

    ReplyDelete
  28. Nick22pr via youtube
@kprice1990 yes. england was the mother country. it should be viewed as a sign of respect and friendship for the brits that we use their tune for our national anthem. we just changed the words to reflect our own national pride. britain and america are the two closest allies in the world. y do we argue amongst each other? were practically sister countries for goodness sakes. my familys fought the british 3 damn times and i still respect ya'll.

    ReplyDelete
  29. westhoff0407 via youtube
    @chriswba05170 @kprice1990

So we're all right then. Your man wrote the tune. Our man wrote the words, and those words are most certainly, as @mattd00d82 mentioned, about a British attack on Fort McHenry that was unsuccessful. Again, we are all correct. haha.

Oh, thus be it ever when free men shall stand

Between their loved homes and the war's desolation!

Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n rescued land

Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserved us a nation!

Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,

And this be our motto, "In God is our trust"

And the Star-Spangled Banner in triumph shall wave

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

    ReplyDelete
  34. jerseydevs2000 via youtube
So we borrowed the tune of an English drinking song and used it for our national anthem. Honestly, who cares? The words are what matter and they're 100% American.

As are the words to "My Country 'Tis of Thee" which uses the same melody as "God Save the Queen" but is as patriotic an American song as there is. Both songs sort of remind us of our country's roots in the UK and yet at the same time the lyrics very much distinguish us from the "mother country."

The England fans outnumbered the Americans in a 2:1 ratio but it sure didn't seem like it after the game. All the English players and fans left, while the american players saluted their loyal fans who had to travel twice as far as the English scum did. WE WON GROUP C! @daniel0164 country's? AMERICA'S!

We have a good military. I want to know YOUR OWN reasoning for your thought on a modern day revolutionary war.

I think we would win because we have a good thought of military actions now that bush is out of office. That was my reason. my own thoughts on it.

Plus why would there EVEN BE a revolutionary war now?

Oh and one more question. why the freaking hell do you call us wankers, git, twits? I would love to know. it was just out of curiousity. Fuck u Limey.

    ReplyDelete
  59. daniel0164 via youtube
@kaitokita Why do you call us limey's? We have very different culture's growing up with different phrases. True america have a great military with alot history. But im a proud englishman im always going to back my country. Sorry if i offended you but i was simply stating how both country's fans reacted differently to their national anthems. Fore a little country (england) we are a powerful democratic country with also a great army. Shame to say america and england will never see eye-to-eye.

@daniel0164 (limey is an old term for the british)

I'm also sorry. (if I was there I wouldn't have sang my anthem. ah, just like the 4 of July, except I was listening to the Russian national anthem all day.)

It is sad that our countries won't see eye to eye. Some day though...

@daniel0164 If we faced Germany, we would've lost 7-0? Really, my friend, I do doubt this. Especially considering the prince of England commented on how the USA would lose to England by at LEAST a margin of 5. Look what happened. Not so much. English FAIL.

You making that comment about how we would lose 7-0 really proved your lack of reason and rationality. And if we scored the shittiest goal, how did it go in? Sounds like the shittiest keeper ever. Howard on the other hand...haha true hero!

  71. agibbs98 via youtube
@timthecoleman You're right in a sense (about most points being a result of a mistake). But most, if not all, teams have had great goals this world cup (USA and England included) which aren't result of any obvious mistake. At the international level our players are at, we can't be expecting mistakes let alone celebrate them!

You seem to be a smart American, good to know.

    ReplyDelete
  72. timthecoleman via youtube
@agibbs98 Actually considering you get points for draws, I don't see tying England as all that bad. To be technical, in sports most if not every goal, point, run, touchdown, etc. is the result of a mistake, or poor execution on the part of your adversary. Green seemed much more awake after that goal, and had some nice saves. No way of knowing any other those would have made it in if he wasn't so pissed off at missing the ball. But I agree, outside of cities, most Americans are insanely daft.

    ReplyDelete
  73. agibbs98 via youtube
@nobuddrinker It was on a French TV show, it wasn't sarcasm. The editor of the paper has expressed apologies after being forcefully interviewed by a German sports journalist in New York.

At the end of the day, being born in the USA, I think it was general stupidity for the US to celebrate that win, if you celebrate a draw you are losers. If you celebrate a draw that was a result of a mistake, well... just about sums up the USA nowadays.
