MANGAUNG
Bloemfontein is situated in the centre of South Africa and is the capital of the Free State Province as well as the judicial capital of South Africa.
Bloemfontein is known as the “City of Roses” owing to the abundance of flowers as well as the Annual Rose Festival held in Bloemfontein. Mangaung means “Place of Cheetahs”.
Major attractions in Bloemfontein include Kings Park with its 400 Rose Bushes as well as the Free State Botanical Gardens which covers an area of 70 hectares and has over 400 species of plants.
Bloemfontein will be host to both the FIFA Confederations Cup 2009 and the FIFA World Cup in 2010. Bloemfontein plays host to Spain vs Iraq, Spain vs South Africa and Brazil vs Egypt as well as a Semi-final for the Confederations Cup. Bloemfontein will also host 5 World Cup Group Games as well as a Round of 16 Game.
2010 PROJECTS
FREE STATE STADIUM
The Free State Stadium, also known as the Vodacom Park currently holds a capacity of 38 000. A 2nd tier will be added to the main Grand Stand on the West Side of the Stadium increasing the capacity to 48 000. The proposed budget for the stadium is about R250 million.
FAN PARK
The Official Bloemfontein Fan Park will be either located at Hoffman Square or the Mangaung Outdoor Sports Centre (Photo). Other public viewing areas include the Mabana Stadium in Thaba Nchu as well as the area outside the Botshabelo Stadium.
TRAINING VENUES
The 2 Training Venues set out for the city of Bloemfontein are the Seisa Ramabodu Stadium (Photo Below) and the Botshabelo Stadium (2nd Photo).
PARK & RIDE
The Park & Ride Areas designated for the 2010 FIFA World Cup will be chosen from the following areas: The Windmill Casino between the N1 and city centre, Northridge Mall situated adjacent to Eufees Road, University of the Free State which is West of Bloemfontein or the Old Bloemfontein Race Course situated on the N8 near Bloemfontein Airport.
Furthermore Park & Walk Sites are to be chosen from the following, Fontein Street Municipal Garage, Grey School College, St Andrew School, HTS Louis Botha School and Dr Viljoen School.
TRANSPORT PROJECTSBloemfontein have developed a Transport Serving Concept for the General Public for the 2010 World Cup which includes the Inter-City Rail, Local Bus Service, Local Taxi Service Metered Taxi Service, Private Car Hire. Furthermore the Transport Serving Concept will tackle the following areas such as the Bloemfontein Airport and Kimberley Airport located 160 kms away from Bloemfontein as a major means of transport to the city.
The major transport projects for Bloemfontein 2010 are as follows:
Pedestrianisation of Elizabeth Street and Selbourne Avenue
Upgrading of Parfitt Avenue and Nelson Mandela Avenue

Intermodal Public Transport Facility.

ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation for the 2010 World Cup currently has availability in the following areas, Universitas, Brandwag, Westdene and the CBD Area in order of amount. The current accommodation available includes Hotels, Lodges, Guest Houses, Bed & Breakfasts Self Catering, Schools & Universities as well as private dwellings made available. Surrounding Areas to Bloemfontein have also been targeted to assist in accommodation such as Ventersburg, Fouriesburg, Springbok, Welkom, Kuruman & Kimberley.
