TSHWANE

Pretoria (Tshwane) is the administrative capital of South Africa. Pretoria is located just 50 kms from Johannesburg (Also Host City) in Gauteng.
As the administrative capital Pretoria is host o more than 150 International Embassies.
Tshwane is host city for 2 of South Africa’s Biggest soccer clubs in Mamelodi Sundowns
And current PSL Champions Supersport United.
Major Attractions in Tshwane include:

2010 PROJECTS
LOFTUS VERSFELD


The official stadium of the City of Tshwane is Loftus Versveld. The stadium has a capacity of 49 600 Spectators and will play host to 5 Group Games and 1 Round of 16 Game at the 2010 World Cup. Tshwane is also a host city for the FIFA Confederations Cup and will play host to the following games:

Group 2, USA vs Italy, USA vs Brazil & and Brazil vs Italy.

The improvements to be done on Loftus Versfeld include:

Roof Over the Eastern Pavilion

Improvements to Floodlights & Scoreboard

New Dugout

Improvement of Spectator Seats

In Total the Budget for the Improvements is R 90 Million.



FAN PARK

The FIFA Fan Park for Pretoria is to be situated at the City of Tshwane Event Centre (Formerly Pretoria Show Grounds) in Pretoria West. The estimated spectator capacity of this site is expected to be 60 000 people.


Other Public Viewing Areas targeted for the city are:

Soshanguve Block X Sports Ground (Capacity 25 000)

Themba Sports Ground (20 000)

Mbolekwa Sports Ground in Attridgeville (30 000)

Moretele Park in Mamelodi (30 000)

Supersport Park Stadium in Centurion (50 000)

TRAINING VENUES

The proposed training venues for Pretoria are:

HM Pitje Stadium in Mamelodi

Super Stadium in Attridgeville (Photo)

Giant Stadium in Soshanguve
PARK & RIDE

The 2 main Park & Ride areas targeted for the City of Tshwane are at LC De Villiers Sports Ground (East of Stadium) and the Pretoria Sports Ground at University of Pretoria. Furthermore pedestrians will be given different colour tickets for the 4 different zones of the stadium which are as follows:

Western (Main) Stand – Yellow Tickets

Northern Stand – Red Tickets

Eastern Stand – Blue Tickets

Southern Stand – Green Tickets

TRANSPORT PROJECTS

The major transport projects targeted for the City of Tshwane with regards to the 2010 World Cup include the following:
New Gautrain Rail Link (Will Be Discussed in Further Detail in a Later Post)
Development of City of Tshwane Bus Rapid Transit System
Other Projects include:

The upgrading of roads in the following areas with an approved budget of R 375 Million:
Hatfield and Loftus Versfeld Stadium (eg. 1 Ways and Pedestrian links)
Training Venues: HM Pitje, Super Stadium and Giant Stadium

Access to City Airports (Wonderboom Airport)
Rail Network:
The main upgrades with regards to the existing Rail System include the following:
Pretoria Station (Inter City and Loftus Versveld)
Mabopane Station (Main Interchange)
Pretoria West Station (City of Tshwane Events Centre- FIFA Fan Park)
Rissik station (Loftus Versveld)
Denneboom Station (HM Pitje Stadium)
Atteridgeville Station (Super Stadium)
Soshanguve Station – (Giant Stadium)

Bus Network:
A total of 160 New Bus Coaches are expected to be bought for the 2010 World Cup/
Mini Bus Taxi Service:
A total of 15 000 Taxi’s currently exist in the Pretoria Area. A Re-capitalization and Registration process of these taxis are currently being implemented.

Metered Taxi Services:

About 600 Metered Taxis are available in Tshwane. These taxis need to be graded as well as giving the drivers tourist orientated customer care training.

Airports:
Routes and Transport services need to be provided from the following Airports which are directly linked to the City of Tshwane.

Oliver Tambo International Airport
Lanseria Airport
Wonderboom Airport
Waterkloof Airport

ACCOMMODATION
The main accommodation for the City of Tshwane for the 2010 World Cup is currently concentrated in the Pretoria CBD with a total of 12 000 beds covering over 40% of the city’s current accommodation available. It is expected that by 2010 over 35 000 beds will be available in the city.
